28th May 2011 Notes: Comet Elenin Coma Now At 100,000km
There is no doubt ……the coma of comet Elenin is now around 100,000 km in size and growing.
However we have seen many posts on the Internet saying this is not normal for a comet and assuming that Elenin is not a comet and must be something else.
Well a 100,000 km coma is definitely a norm for a comet.
In fact , on November 9, 2007 comet Holmes released so much gas and dust that it made the gas giant Jupiter look like a tiny moon. Comet Holmes had a diameter of 1.4 million km and was actually wider than the Sun which is 1.38 million km.
So with Elenin still well beyond the orbit of Mars and 5 months away from Earth, we will see it’s coma grow as it nears the Sun. We believe at the moment it’s coma is increasing by roughly 20,000 km a month which means when it passes us in October it’s coma will be somewhere between 200,000 and 300,000 km in size….. perhaps a bit more.
But the size of the coma is nothing for people to worry about as Elenin will be too far away for it’s coma to effect us.

Actually until Elenin reaches the orbital distance of Mars, there is no tail to Elenin as yet. The coma itself is what is 100,000 km in size.
As a comet approaches the inner solar system, solar radiation causes the volatile materials within the comet to vaporize and stream out of the nucleus, carrying dust away with them. The streams of dust and gas released then form a huge atmosphere around the comet called the coma.
The tail of the comet is formed later as the comet gets much closer to the sun due to the force exerted on the coma by the Sun’s radiation pressure and solar wind cause an enormous tail to form . The tail when formed will always point in the opposite direction to the sun.
Looks like there will be a good three weeks after Elenin crosses Mars’ orbit on June 26th before it gets too low to see. It should have a tail somewhere during that time.
Based on all that I have been reading about Elenin it is my belief that Elenin is not a traditional comet. Comets are usually moving much more quickly and are usually everywhere except the plane of the ecliptic. Elenin is moving in the plane of the ecliptic and is moving very slowly. This together with the observation that at time of alignments there have been some very big earthquakes makes me think that Elenin is more than just a mere comet. It is at the least a planet with a rogue orbit. Some one stated here at ATS that Elenin has a 39,000 year orbital period, but did not give any reference as to where they obtained that figure. Only this week NASA published a new theory on their website about such rogue planets existing in vaste numbers between the stars. That Elenin is one such rogue planet does not come to me as being a big surprise. According to the astronomer Leonid Elenin the object is measuring 80,000 kilometers diameter. He was assuming it to be the “coma” of a normal comet. But that is a big assumption. Since Elenin is having gravitational effects we must accept that it is actually at the least a rogue planet. Now a planet that size would be visible in our sky. Especially as it is now so much nearer to us.
So why are we not yet seeing it ? Well actually I looked. I do my amateur astronomy on an occasional basis. So I was careful to make sure that I was not observing a regular star. Admittedly it is easy to get mixed up when observing the sky. But on this occasion I was careful. I promise you that I am not trying to lie to you. In April I observed a very sparkly star like object in the constellation of Gemini. It really was very bright. However at this time of year Gemini is very quickly hitting the horizon. So that I only had a very short time to make my observation. Then until last week it came on cloudy. So that I could not make another observation until just a week ago at end of May. I looked again and at first I wondered to myself where it had disappeared to. However following the plane of the ecliptic from Gemini into Taurus I again observed the glittering bright object. It was very close to the horizon and still it was clearly visible through a layer of cloud and haze on the horizon. This indicates that it is very bright. Now there are those who will suggest that my observation is not valid and that I am simply observing a normal star. However I do believe that I was seeing Elenin. At this time of year especially as Elenin is getting nearer and nearer to the Sun, Elenin is very near to the horizon. So near that you might not be able to see it anymore. So do not think that just because it would be so bright that it will be easily visible in the sky. In my opinion Elenin is a rogue planet about the size of Uranus or Neptune. In my understanding it is not likely to collide with the Earth, but its gravity will probably trigger earthquakes and volcanic activity. Solar flares in our direction too. Causing electricity problems. So long as we understand this we will be able to avoid problems.
Something which no one mentions is the possibility that there are “Eleninians” living on the rogue planet Elenin. Are we going to be visited by them ? Are we launching a probe into orbit around Elenin ? For the “Eleninians” flying into our Solar System every 39,000 years must be a catastrophic event for them. The scorching heat of the Sun incinerating them. Burning them to death. Spare a thought for them. Our problems are little by comparison.

Unfortunately there is a lot of incorrect information out there so people need to be wary of what they read. We still see that Elenin is nothing more than a comet ( and don’t expect that to change) and our picture today is suggesting that Elenin may already be forming it’s tail. If Elenin was a planet, this would not be happening. There is also no proof that Elenin has any gravitational influence on us… that is pure assumption.
We are not sure what you were looking at in April, however it would not have been Elenin. The comet is still too far away and is still a faint comet and Elenin is still in the constellation of Leo while the object you were looking at was in Gemini.
I would have thought that if there was a large planet on its way to us or a brown dwarf star, surely by now someone would have seen it? I may be wrong but I would have thought it would now be close enough to clearly be seen by astronomers.
Yet though there are many looking out at the night sky no-one is seeing this large body . So, it is either that everyone is looking in the wrong direction or it is not there.
The more I have been looking into this, the less likely it is that there is a large body on its way to us, at the moment.
However, there are strange things happening at the moment on this planet and things seem to be getting worse, but we simply do not know why.
M M M M M i think only time will tell if this comet/rogue planet did not align with earth…3 times… and did not cause earthquakes in Chile, Christchurch , japan…………….then what did ??????
