18th May 2011 Notes: Elenin Orbit Changed 4 days ago

Comet Elenin has been observed 1741 times since 10th December last year and was last observed 8 days ago. Based on the last observation, the orbit of Elenin was slightly modified 4 days ago.

Based on current data, the minimum distance Elenin will be to Earth is 34.9739 million km away while it’s maximum distance from us will be 34.9873 million km.

This means that comet Elenin at it’s closest on 16th October will be 94 times further away from us than the Moon.

  1. how much of a change is this from the previous projected orbit?

  2. With the new orbit calculations, at it’s closest distance from us it will now be further away from Earth by 29,000 km.
