14th May 2011 Notes: The 6 Planets

The sky is putting on a great show at the moment and for the next week or so.

If you look to the east of Sydney just before the Sun rises, you will see a sight that has not been seen in over a hundred years….. Jupiter, Mars , Mercury and Venus gathered together in the morning sky.

And those 4 planets are not alone…….. if you have a good telescope you will also see Neptune and Uranus making up a very rare grouping of planets.

The last time these planets were observed together was in October 1910 and this event will not happen again until 2056.

The 4 planets visible to the naked eye are like sparkling jewels in the early morning sky.

If you have not seen them yet, wake up tomorrow before dawn , put on a jumper because it will be cold here in Sydney, and go and take a peek at the show.
