8th May 2011 Notes: Elenin

As long as the weather holds, we will take our next picture of Elenin in just under 2 hours at position 10h 33m 06s +7° 33′ 14″

Update: The picture below is what we saw of Comet Elenin today. The picture is not of very high quality as light cloud in the area was effecting the picture.

In the right hand image of the picture we point out where comet elenin is at the moment.

You will also notice in the top right hand corner the passage of either a meteor or a satellite across the picture at the time the picture was being taken.

  1. When I plug the above coordinates into the world wide telescope the coordinates take me to the sun???

  2. Here are a few Enhancements of this image

  3. thank you Amy.

Do you know of any websites that have live views of the sky?

  4. The only one I can think of is this one http://skyview.gsfc.nasa.gov/

Here are 2 more images of Elenin … but in Radio Wave Band … this puppy has one heck of a plasma tail!

A question for the group here … What will/could happen when this plasma tail is pointing toward Earth during its close approach in October?

  5. Amy thank you for the fabulous pictures.

Do you know of any other observatories that are taking pictures of Elenin?

Is it true that because of Elenin’s position, it can only be seen in the southern hemisphere?

I am looking forward to anyone’s answer to your question?
