6th May 2011 Notes: Debris From Halley’s comet.
If you see meteors from the eta Aquarids meteor show over the next week, best seen from the Southern Hemisphere May 6, then you are watching as we pass through the debris left over from Halley Comet. And this is a good time to see the meteors as we do not have a glaring Moon to deal with.
The meteors would have started being visible on April 21, peaking tonight and then begin dwindling in numbers until May 12.
Best seen at 4am and you would want to look somewhere between Altair and the eastern horizon in Sydney.
