8th April 2011 Notes: A Star Being Torn to Pieces

When a star blows up, it normally will begin to fade within minutes or hours of the explosion. However, for the last 10 days scientists have been watching a massive explosion 3.8 billion light years away which has not shown any signs of fading. It is suspected that a massive black hole has grabbed a star and is tearing it apart in a massive show. Three telescopes…. Hubble, Swift and Chandra,,, are working together now to examine this event.

We have tried to enhance the image of this explosion below to try and bring out some more details.
