6th April 2011 Notes: Meteoroid Hitting the Moon
When you are looking at the Moon, what could you expect to see if a meteoroid impacted the Moon while you were watching. The picture below shows you exactly what you would see. A small flash of light that would last a second or two. The picture below shows an impact that occurred on May 2nd, 2006 which left a 14 meter wide crater. The meteoroid was calculated to be 25cm wide travelling at 38 km/sec. Remember…. the Moon is hit all the time so one day you may see something yourself.
