5th April 2011 Notes: Looking for water on Mercury

Despite Mercury having a surface temperature of 450 degrees Celsius, NASA’s Messenger probe will be looking for signs of water ice on Mercury. There is a good chance of ice being found in the polar craters whose floors are permanently covered in shadows. It was 20 years ago since radar detected something reflective at Mercury’s poles and this could indeed have being water ice. But will it still be there 20 years later?
