The Universe Today : Centaurus A

Centaurus A is a galaxy which is currently colliding with another galaxy…a spiral galaxy which is being devoured in the process by Centaurus A.

As you can see in the imnage we processed below, the central part of Centaurus A is made up of evolved and much older red stars . The outer disk of the galaxy shown in blue is made up of well over 100 different star forming regions.

The highlighted feature of this “colliding” galaxy is the fragmented dust disc which sits in front of the nucleus .
