The Universe Today : The Helix Nebula

The Helix Nebula is an interesting object to view and it has some interesting features. The Hubble telescope has detected what appears to be thousands of huge tadpole shaped objects which are surrounding a dying star. These objects also look like comets with glowing heads and a tail sweeping behind them pointing away from the dying star.

These tadpole objects are thought to be a result of the final throes of the dying star and should disappear in the next few hundred thousand years.

It is believed that there are about 20,000 of these objects to be seen in the Helix Nebula.
