Comet Hartley (103P)

Today’s image of Comet Hartley (103P) shows the comet passing through the constellation of Cassiopeia with a magnitude of + 5.75.

In a weeks time 103P will be brighter with a magnitude of + 5.27 and in 14 days it will be +4.71

As has been mentioned in our Comet Watch section, Hartley (103P) is on final approach to the Sun and will be passing Earth at it’s nearest distance in about 2 weeks time. If we get to see it , you should be able to see this comet with the naked eye.

In Australia, this may be diffacult as the comet may be fairly low in the sky .

In the picture below, it is hard to make out the comet but we believe that it is the brightest object in the picture which was taken a few hours ago.
