Swan Nebula : Sep 3rd 2010

This is a pretty good picture of the Swan Nebula taken in the early hours of this morning. The quality of the picture is even more amazing considering that there was a degree of haze in the sky when the picture was taken.

The Swan Nebula is also known as M17 and it is a bright red nebula which is found near the Eagle nebula. It is suspected that the Swan and Eagle nebulas may be part of the same structure due to their close distance to each other.

The hot gases of the Swan Nebula shine brightly due to an open cluster of around 35 stars which exist in the nebula itself.
