Which Planets Are Visible Tonight?

When I begin my observing sessions I always like to have a look at our Moon and any of the planets that may be above Sydney’s horizon at that time. The moon is an all time favourite as one can never get tired of looking at the craters which take on a different appearance everytime depending on the phase of the Moon. Now I know when the moon is around as this information is already showing in the daily

Clear Sky Chart…… but what about the planets? When do they rise and set?

So the question comes to mind of how exactly you can determine which planets are visible during the night and when you should start looking for them. After all it would be pointless looking for Mars if it had not yet appeared above the horizon.

So I have decided to add an additional chart to Sydney Stargazers which will hopefully provide people in Sydney (NSW) with an easy way to determine whixh planets are around and what time to start looking for them.

This Planet Visibility Chart will be updated each day and will found at the top of the page immediately after the 5 night cloud forecast map.
