Moon and Cloud over Sydney

Universe Watch has looked at a couple of double stars over the last 3 days, however these have been impossible to see with the cloud cover which continues to plague Sydney. Even so, the near full moon would have made these stars diffacult to observe as the moon pretty much was chasing these double stars across the sky.

But in the next 3 or 4 days the Moon should begin to rise later so this will give sufficient time to look at the double stars covered by Universe Watch. One of them will be a challenge to see how good your scope optics are.

Speaking of the moon and clouds over Sydney, we had a major blackout on Sunday which in normal conditions is great for astronomers as it removes sources of light in the immediate area .  But I was not able to enjoy the one hour of dark sky as there was almost 90% cloud cover over sydney at the time.

But I did manage to see the Moon peeking through the clouds from time to time and took some pictures , one of which is included in this post. This was not taken through a telescope but was simply pointing a standard digital camera at the moon.

Problem with that with most of the pictures I had being experimenting with shutter speed and got some less than desirable shots. However on a positive note I think I found a suitable shutter speed setting for the next time I am taking images through the telescope. This promises to help with future images but I still need to upgrade my camera next year to a more serious beast.
