Universe Watch Opens Today

Universe Watch

I have opened up the new section of the site ….. Universe Watch…… which will look at  objects viewable from Sydney. These objects all  have a  magnitude of less than +13 so they should be visible in a number of backyard telescopes.

The first part of Universe Watch posted today gives some handy information on what objects you can see with the naked eye or with various telescopes and hopefully explains what the magnitude scale is all about. This is handy if you need to work out if you can see the Butterfly Cluster or the Eagle Nebula for instance with your telescope.

Each day Universe Watch will look at a new object….starting with the brightest object visible at 9pm each night of the month leading to the fainter objects.

I selected the time of 9pm as an observing time as it is late enough for objects to get higher in the sky and not too late for people that need to go to work in the morning.
